Writing as a Passion

When Writing becomes more a task to be checked off a list, it may be time to step back for a second.

Life gets busy, and sometimes finding even a few minutes to write can feel impossible. Between work, responsibilities, and everything else demanding your attention, it’s easy to lose sight of why you started writing in the first place. But here’s the thing—writing isn’t just about hitting quotas or checking off boxes. Sometimes, you need to step back, take a moment for yourself, and just write what you love.

Forget the word counts and deadlines for a minute. Instead, focus on the parts of writing that light you up. Maybe it’s a scene you’ve been dying to put on paper, a character you can’t stop thinking about, or even just a random idea that makes you smile. Writing doesn’t always have to be productive—it can be fun, messy, and exactly what you need in the moment. When you let yourself write without pressure, it’s amazing how much more creative and inspired you can feel.

And honestly? Sometimes writing is self-care. Taking a break from the chaos to sit down with your favorite pen and let your imagination wander is good for your soul. It doesn’t have to be perfect or polished—it just has to be you. So, don’t stress about what you “should” be writing. Make time for the stories you love, and let yourself enjoy the process. Writing isn’t just about the end result; it’s about the journey, and it’s okay to make that journey yours.

I’ve been putting this into practice with my recent novel, Chains of the Covenant. From the beginning, I decided this book wouldn’t be about hitting milestones or fitting into anyone else’s mold. It’s my passion project, built on the kind of story I’ve always wanted to read. I let myself have fun with it, crafting characters and worlds that truly resonate with me. There’s no better feeling than sitting down to write and knowing I’m creating something that’s uniquely mine, something I’m genuinely excited to share with others.

By making Chains of the Covenant a project for me first, I’ve rediscovered what I love most about storytelling. It’s reminded me that writing doesn’t always have to be about chasing goals or pleasing others—it can be about finding joy in the process. If you’re feeling stuck or burned out, I encourage you to do the same. Take a step back, tune out the noise, and write the story that’s been waiting inside you. You might just surprise yourself with what you create.
